Sink Float Separation Tank

Impurity contamination is a common challenge in plastic recycling. Low-density or non-target materials such as labels, caps, sleeve films, composite films, metals, glass, and sand—if not properly removed—can directly affect the quality of the final output.

The sink-float separation tank is specifically designed to address this issue. Based on density differences between materials, it enables automatic stratification of mixed plastics by allowing lighter materials to float and heavier ones to sink, achieving accurate and efficient material separation.

    Double Stage Pelletizing Machine Process

     

    Sinking Material Separation

    Plastics with a density greater than water (such as PET, PS, and PVC) will sink to the bottom when processed in a rinsing tank, and are conveyed to the next stage by a screw conveyor.

    Triangular Lifting Structure

    • Heavier materials settle at the bottom and are transported to the next recycling stage via the screw

    • Floating materials can be collected separately

    Note:
    It is important to remove as many impurities as possible from the sinking materials upstream in the process.

    Floating Material Separation

    Suitable for separating low-density plastics such as PE/PP/HDPE woven bags, jumbo bags, and milk bottles.

    Plastics with a density lower than water (e.g., PP, PE) are processed in a multi-claw sink-float separation tank, where they float on the surface and are discharged through the top outlet into the next recycling stage.

    Multi-Claw Rinsing Roller Structure

    • Frequency-controlled discharge for stable and uniform material output

    • Patented flow-guiding design minimizes residual water in the discharged material

    • Adjustable overflow height to accommodate different floating material ratios

    For materials that do not dissolve in water and contain pollutants requiring separate recovery, we offer an integrated rinsing + residue recovery solution.

    In addition, a synchronized system combining an adjustable screw shaft pusher and a central washing unit enables simultaneous washing and discharge of sinking materials, preventing buildup or entanglement inside the tank.
     

    Our sink-float separation tank (for sinking materials) is suitable for the following types of recycling lines and material applications:

    Materials with density greater than water PET / PS / ABS Non-plastic contaminants should be removed as much as possible at the front end
    Materials with density less than water Films / Woven bags / Jumbo bags Heavily contaminated with mud or sand; contaminants should be discharged from the bottom
    Low-density materials with residue recovery Mineral powder bags / Chemical bags Bags may contain hazardous residues; materials are reusable — consult Boxin for a "Residue Recovery + Integrated Washing" solution
